We've a strong ethos of personal service combined with professional skill. We design and build the best quality, architect-designed, garden offices and energy efficient garden retreats for people in search of unique and individual buildings.
In 2011 we built garden buildings from the Isle of Islay in the North to the edge of Chichester harbour in the South and many other places in between!
In terms of location, our team is spread around the country:
- we're based in Lancashire
- our PA lives in Abergavenny
- key suppliers are based in Lancashire and Sussex
- and our hand picked building team are based in the Midlands
People
In 2002 Gordon and Lynn designed and built their own garden office as a design studio for Gordon's architectural practice and for Lynn's textile design business. Soon after moving in they realised they could build similar buildings for other people and InsideOut Buildings was born. Their office is still the home of InsideOut and Gordon's architectural work.

Project manager - Lynn Fotheringham
Lynn is the person who listens to you and makes your building project happen. From the first visit to meet you and see your garden, through to handing over the keys when the building is finished, she looks after you and your project.
Architect - Gordon Smith RIBA
Gordon is the company architect. He's always had a love of timber buildings and building his own office fulfilled a long term dream. Gordon designs all the offices and annexes - including the groundworks, drainage and plumbing.
He also negotiates with planning departments and makes building regulations applications, where necessary.

Gordon and Lynn are the people who will visit you when you request a site visit. They're involved with your project at every stage and will be there on the first day of the building work to ensure all materials are delivered correctly, and ensure the building team are clear about every aspect of the build.
