InsideOut garden offices and Breathing Technology

There are three eco friendly steps to a warm, dry, ‘breathing’ garden office, Microlodge or granny flat: -

1. Air Circulation.

  • InsideOut eco friendly garden offices and outbuildings are designed with specially vented walls and roof. Air circulates in the air gap between the outer cladding, the cedar roofing tiles, and the main structure of the garden offices. Air also circulates under the suspended floor. This avoids ‘cold spots’ where natural moisture may collect.

2. Natural Migration.

Insulating breather membrane

  • All our eco friendly garden offices, guest rooms and granny annexes are wrapped in an insulating permeable vapour membrane. The membrane acts as a breathable cagoule – It allows natural moisture to migrate out of the garden offices –retaining a dry atmosphere inside. It also increases the *U Value and provides additional insulation. Conventional buildings create condensation by using impermeable insulation materials, membranes and wallboards.

3. Insulation Quality and U Values.

  • Double layers of eco friendly insulation. InsideOut Buildings are insulated to 2005 Building Regulations Standards for new houses and public buildings. InsideOut's eco friendly garden offices, guest rooms and granny annexes are better insulated than homes and public buildings built before 2002.

*Understanding U Values.

Insulation is measured by the ‘U Value’ of the walls, floor and roof. The U Value is a measure of how much heat passes out of a building.

The lower the U Value, the more heat is kept in by that wall, floor or roof. InsideOut eco friendly garden offices have lower U Values than required by the 2005 Building Regulations.

The 2005 Building Regulations require the following U Values for new houses and public buildings: -

Walls = 0.35 - surpassed in eco friendly InsideOut Buildings by using 100mm of insulation in walls.

Roof   = 0.2 - achieved in eco friendly InsideOut Buildings by using 200mm of insulation in roof.

Floor = 0.25 - surpassed in eco friendly InsideOut Buildings by using 200mm of insulation in floor.
