I'm delighted... a very good music room and study. It's a very good, dry environment for the piano.
James Darcy, Oxford
Use your space creatively
It can be tough painting, drawing, being creative at home. There's never quite enough space to spread out, leave everything out and not get in everybody's way.
So it's not too surprising that the creative people we have built for are flourishing in their own studios. It might be...
- the calm atmosphere created with the use of natural materials
- having plenty of room for movement and storage, thanks to the high ceilings
- windows and doors in just the right places to make maximum use of natural daylight
"My garden studio has made a huge difference to me. I can work without interruption and know that nobody will disturb anything.
Polly Bowen, Bedlington, Northumberland.
The right size building for you
- You don't have to have a huge garden
- You can choose standard size from our brochure or a bespoke version
- We do a garden survey to help assess the right size and design of building for you...
Sensitively designed and spacious...
Environmentally sensitive - Its better working in a natural environment. We use building materials and woods that don't need to be treated with preservatives and we avoid plastics. The result is a beautiful, maintenance-free studio.
Constant, steady atmosphere - Each building contains lots of eco-friendly insulation and is always stable and dry. No air conditioning required in summer and only one tiny heater in winter.
Storage - Strong walls designed so that shelves can be attached, strong high ceiling for hanging things from and strong floor for supporting kilns and other equipment.
Built to last - Our studios have the quality of a room in an architect-designed home and are constructed in the same way as a timber-frame house, then finished with Scottish larch on the outside. They are designed to blend into your garden, not dominate it.
The best materials
- Plastered walls on the inside for displaying artwork
- Hand-made, double-glazed wooden windows and doors, any size and any colour
- On the outside - maintenance free Scottish larch cladding and cedar roof tiles and the lovely smell of new wood.
Good buildings to be noisy in
One of the first studios we built is used as a drumming studio. We have it on good authority that the neighbours have never complained!
Even if you're not planning to make a lot of noise you'll enjoy the benefit of having all the tools of your craft about you - no more time wasted packing and unpacking all your things when you want to create.
We've explained a little about our garden studios here and there's lots more to know. To discuss futher please call Lynn Fotheringham on 01524 737999
