InsideOut and timber frame building – the technical stuff!Timber frame building is based on workshop-made structural parts. Timber frame wall panels carry the load of your garden office building down to the foundations, whilst the external larch cladding provides subtle decoration and weather protection.
The timber frame panels are accurately manufactured in a controlled environment away from the weather in your garden. The panels are rapidly erected on site and with rafters to form the roof, and joists to form the floor; a weather-tight garden office is completed in days. Granny flats take longer! Timber frame building is not just for garden offices or the garden studio; it is used extensively for houses, schools, hotels, offices and sports facilities. Buildings up to eight storeys high can be constructed and conform to Building Regulations. The timber frame building panels of our garden offices and granny flats are made of softwood vertical studs and horizontal rails, filled with wood-based panel sheathing, followed by layers of insulation and finished with plasterboard and skim. The studs carry weight load through the garden office and transfer it to the foundations. The sheathing provides wind resistance. Timber is the only renewable construction material and the softwood used in timber frame building is sourced from environmentally sustainable British and European forests. |
